...and keeps you there. This is really a rather simple story. Ugly duckling meets tortured hero, she's transformed, and he's healed. But the characters are so likeable, I found myself completely absorbed. They're the sort of characters that stay with you, like they're people from real life you've known and cannot forget, and when I'd finished the book, I felt that vague sense of disappointment you feel at the end of any good book, because there wasn't any more. I hope Jamie and Kendry and the adorable baby Sam (and perhaps a little brother or sister!) make cameo appearances in the other two volumes of the series. I'll definitely read them when they come out.
Contrary to what another reviewer wrote, there was a love scene here. It didn't go on for pages and pages, and it wasn't graphic--but it didn't need to be detailed in order to be satisfying.
I actually couldn't read this in one sitting--but it wasn't because I didn't want to. My time was very limited while I was reading this, but each time I had to put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to it. Caro Carson writes so well that you're just pulled right along, and on the last night, I found myself staying up way too late, eagerly gobbling up the last of the story.

Doctor Soldier Daddy The Doctors MacDowell Book 1 edition by Caro Carson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Liked the store especially as it is in a three story series.
This novel is extremely well written with well defined characters. Although the "happily ever after" is never in doubt, I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. I enjoyed the author's style and use of language. I understand she is a new author and I would expect more to come. Looking forward to the next book in the trilogy!
I loved this book the minute I picked it up. The story is one I can relate to as I have worked one too many shifts in the hospital as an RN. I have seen many people fall in love during that time. This story strays from that in the fact that in the beginning Dr. MacDowell thinks that he can just let his infant son pick his next mother. Fortune shines down on him when he finds that the women his child has picked is also one that has potential to steal his heart. Lots of heartache and love in this book. Can't wait to see where the other brothers end up and how their love lives pan out. Thanks Caro for the wonderful read. (PS love the Texas background as I am a Texan!)
FANTASTIC. This is a debut author whose next book I eagerly await. The heroine, Kendry, lives one step up from poverty, works with her whole heart as an orderly, and pursues her plans of being a nurse. She doesn't whine about her circumstances and deals with setbacks. While the title and thrust of the story might lead one to think it's Jamie's story, I was just as involved in Kendry's future. Don't get me wrong Jamie won my heart as the soldier who returned to the States with the boy he hopes is his son. I loved the Daddy aspect as well as his dedication as a doctor. Since he still has soldier duties, he needs to find someone to help secure the baby's place when he's called to reserves or worse, if he gets called back into full-time action. This well-written story hit every emotion for me and I anticipate the next of the brothers' books.
"Doctor, Soldier, Daddy" by Caro Carson. I enjoyed this book more than I expected to, to be honest. At times, it actually made me cry. The heroine, Kendry, was trying so hard to survive and was so proud, it was a bit heartbreaking when things seemed to be against her always. The Hero, Jamie, was a gentleman trying to protect his son and saw Kendry as the only way to do that.
It was fun to watch the relationship progress and the growth of both characters. I did wonder whatever happened to Kendry's problems that were the cause of her being in such a bad place - it was never really cleared up but I suppose Jamie took care of it. I would have liked to have seen a resolution to that only because Kendry was so proud to accept help and then it was gone!
I would recommend "Doctor, Soldier, Daddy" for a quick read that will had me crying, laughing and cheering.
Doctor, Soldier, Daddy is a wonderful, heart-tugging story about a single military doc trying to cope with a new baby, a demanding medical practice, and the very real possibility of being sent back to Afghanistan. Faced with these challenges, Jamie MacDowell decides he needs a wife ASAP - and he finds the perfect one in Kendry Harrison.
What makes this book so different from many marriage-of-convenice books is Caro Carson's crisp writing and the details she shares about the real life dilemma's facing military docs. She should know - she's a West Point grad and served time in uniform herself before going into the medical profession.
And the best part is that Doctor, Soldier, Daddy is the first book of three featuring the hunky Doc's McDowell. Can't wait for the next!
Romance authors tend to stick to one element and build their story on it. Military heroes. Medical settings. Plain Jane heroines. Marriages of convenience. It's hard enough to write a great story with one or two of these elements. Mix all these ingredients together to create a romance that has you turning the pages, rereading those pages? You better have talent abundant. In her story touching on issues affecting military and civilians alike, Caro Carson has succeeded in creating a great read from beginning to end. With one of the most likeable, good-hearted heroines I've met in a while, a doctor/veteran worthy of his Cinderella, and a heartfelt and endearing plot with a good dose of reality, the book is going on my keeper shelf. Can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
